Local Council will not process housing application
Hi there,
My partner acquired significant disabilities during a long critical illness, and is now completely dependent on a wheelchair (unable to stand and walk). He is unable to come home from hospital as we have a first floor flat. We have an OT home assessment report stating this.
Our Housing Association landlord has given us priority banding, but they do not have many accessible homes. We have been advised to apply to the Local Council, who hold the majority of stock for local allocation.
I have applied to the Local Council three times now, twice in September and once last month. Each time I receive an acknowledgement email saying that my application has been received, and will be processed and that a second email will follow 'normally within 20 minutes.' The second email never arrives. When I've followed up by email and/or phone they have not been able to find my name or the application number on the system. One advisor said it was a fault in the system with some new applications.
I don't know what I can do about this. I've been to my MP who has written to the Council twice now on my behalf. They have not replied to her either. So I have resorted to submitting a formal complaint.
Any ideas on what else I can do? The last nineteen months since my partner has been in hospital have been incredibly challenging and isolating. I've supported him through critical illness, brain injury, and loss of mobility, visiting daily whilst trying to keep work and home going - but this additional hurdle is driving me to despair.
