Carer element backdate help

hi, I have just been awarded adult disability payment backdated a year. I have let universal credit know and have asked for carer element to be added to my claim. Can I ask for this to be backdated the year as it was not my fault that it took a year to get to this decision? Or is there a time limit on when UC can backdate this?
Thanks in advance for any help or information.

You can’t claim carers element for yourself. If you’re claiming UC with a partner they can claim it for looking after you, if your ADP includes the daily living part. Providing they are not receiving the LCWRA element their self.

In line with Poppy's advice, yes you can ask for this to be backdated to the award date.
If that is refused, you can request a Mandatory Reconsideration of that decision. It will then be referred onto a Decision Maker.
Also in case you didn't know, the lump sum in backpay will be disregarded from the calculation of your UC capital, for 12 months.
