Do you have accurate data on what percentage of the total "television workforce" are disabled? And why television, and not youtube, tiktok... or DWP?

Action for Children published the following stats in 2022: "Overall, disabled people face severe inequality when being cast in TV roles. In 2021, on-screen contributions of disabled people only made up 8.3%  of all contributions in the UK – a disappointing increase of only 1.1% over the past five years".

I also think there's a significant difference between mainstream television media and social media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok.

I was interested by your DWP comment and while I can't find information on the DWP specifically, I found that 16.9% of civil servants are reportedly disabled.

    Thanks for your comments.

Why tv and not YouTube ect.. because not everyone watchers things on YouTube and tv because hopefully more people will watch.

Like in anything, if it's a box ticking exercise then I don't think so. Plus, if you take into account how many hidden disabilities there are, then there will be more than any figures show anyway.

Do you think there are enough disabled people among the crews of spaceships, submarines, and Antarctic research stations?

Hi, everyone, I know there is a lot of hidden disabilities because I have one.

I think there was a statistic in an article a while back that while only 1 in ten disabled people use a wheelchair, disabled representation on television (I am thinking in terms of drama, not presenting) tends to involve a wheelchair. And it often feels like a tick box exercise (though not always).

But at the same time, I have yet to see a televised depiction of autism that doesn't make me cringe. I am sure there are some, but I've seen so many horrible or patronising ones that I gave up looking.

Most narratives about people with autism are written by people who do not have autism :( It is hard to represent such a diverse invisible disability, but there are definitely ways it should NOT be done.

Hi, you're about people with autism on tv, sometimes they talk a bit strange and sound stupid, we know people with autism aren't like that at all.

Sorry, I miss the right out of my last comment.

It should say your right about people with autism on tv.
