Significant change in circumstances

I am still in shock and not fully awake.

I live in supported accommodation and my landlord just died. It's looking like the property will be sold, so I don't know what that means for me.

I havent migrated onto UC so the move (when it happens) will trigger that off.

My question at this time (as I am not digesting what's just occurred) As I am already in the system and assessed as requiring supportive accommodation and have a carer, does this mean I can move to alternative supported accommodation?

I completely agree that as you are already assessed as requiring supported housing, that you should be looking at a move into an alternative supported housing provision.

If you do move into alternative supported housing then you should remain under Housing Benefit, and not trigger a move to UC. This is because Supported Housing usually falls under Housing Benefit and not UC Housing Element.

There are people claiming UC LCWRA for example but because they live in supported housing, their rent is still paid via Housing Benefit.

    sorry for the sad news

Hopefully it will all be sorted

Just make sure you have everything documented if you are asked to move etc and hopefully this may add to supporting you to move to the correct place

    all the best

How awful for you! I hope that you are supported within the housing system to find suitable accommodation with minimum of disruption / fuss!

Try not to let this dreadful news mare to much over the Festive period.

That is Very hard news to take at Any time, never mind at Christmas. Hopefully, your details are with local authorities, especially as you have a carer, so you should be on their radar.

As someone above said, maybe keep all the paperwork you receive.

It feels fake to suggest you enjoy the Christmas time, but if you have friends and relatives maybe meet them…the more people know about your potential move, the more people can help. Equally, if you want privacy, don't feel obliged to share. I am genuinely sorry that this has happened. E xx

Also keep a note of date, time, the person you spoke to and their email - so you can write to confirm contents of phone call so you and they have a record!!

It will come out good for you.

So far I have a quick look online at what the difference is between sheltered housing and assisted housing.

There are a few in my current area.

It should/could be straight forward. I have lived here nearly 30 years. It's going to be a huge change. 😞
