asking on behalf of a friend.

she has an appointee and wanted to know if her appointee has to fill in any parts of the UC migration specifically. or if it’s standard sort of questions.

Her appointee usually fills out the physical forms but was unsure of the process of appointee in a migration situation.

I’m guessing her appointee has to manage the journal moving forward ?

Her appointee lives about an hour away so I think she’s trying to figure it put as it’s all new and confusing.

I said I could ask here and let her know. She’s doesn’t use computers.

wishing you all a merry Christmas !

The appointee will transfer over from the claimants current benefits. If the appointee doesn't have access to the internet then having access to a journal could be difficult. They can start a claim by ringing the helpline. When doing this there will be no access to a journal and letters will be through the post. If there's any issues with anything going forward the appointee will need to ring the helpline.

Which benefits is the claimant currently claiming exactly?

    esa / support group

Housing benefit / child tax credit / child benefit and pip. I think council tax support too.

Does the appointee have to produce any Id during the migration or other documents ? Or is it more to do with the claimant ?

They will be entitled to the LCWRA element from the start of the claim. The system should now automatically detect that they are in the Support Group.

If they are privately renting their home they will need to provide proof of liability to pay rent such as tenancy agreement. If living in social housing they will not need to provide any documents. They will only need to give details of their landlord and UC will then contact the landlord directly.

Council tax reduction isn't part of UC but it will be recalculated based on their first UC statement.

Income Related ESA and housing benefit will continue for 2 weeks once the claim is submitted. If any part of their ESA is contributions based this will continue fortnightly at £276.40 and be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

The appointee will not need to provide any ID because they are not the claimant. If ID can't be verified online for the claimant then a telephone appointment can be arranged with the appointee.

also based on the benefits she already receives what is her UC likely to be in comparison ?

She’s worried about getting less. She doesn’t get SDP.

If ID can't be verified online they don't need to attend an appointment in person, it can be through telephone. There's information here on what you use for ID. The biographical appointment would mean answering questions about the claimant through a phone call.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-verify-your-identity-for-universal-credit

If her UC entitlement is less than her current benefits then she'll be entitled to Transitional Protection so she won't be worse off when she migrates. LCWRA element with UC actually pays more than ESA support Group for her because her ESA doesn't include the SDP.

I see do you know the rate she might receive ?

When doing the ID checks online is this something you have to scan and upload ?

Do you know if you can you setup voice is ID for child tax accounts ?

mid they do a biographical one what does that entail ?

Her UC will include standard allowance (if single 25 and over £393.45, more if living with partner or less if under 25) LCWRA element (£416.19) child element ( depends on how many children and their ages) and housing element. ( should be the same as her housing benefit) If she claims DLA for any of her children then she will also be entitled to disabled child element.

She can use a benefits calculator online.

    https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/

Child benefit continues as normal because it's not part of UC.

If she has voice ID for tax credits then that should already be set up as she would have been given the opportunity to set this up in the past, or she could have also opted out at that time. If she opted out I don't know if that can be activated now.

If ID can be done online, I don't think she will need to upload documents. Biographical ID would be questions about the claimant such as date of birth, address etc.

    Lots of information here.

    brilliant thanks

oh She has one son 10 and she has saved about £2500 will this have to be declared on the migration ?

She has £5000 herself in savings. And £100 in cash as an emergency.

She will be asked about capital during the application process.

Anything over £6000 in her name will have to be declared, UC will probably ask for bank statements in those circumstances.

For every £250 over £6k, £4.35 will be deducted from her award.

would that still be the case if the account had its own account number and sort code ?

Her son account has his name on it but she can access if it on an app.

If it's in her son's name then it won't count towards her capital.

I remember reading somewhere that a child account is ok if under £3000 but read some posts saying if you have access to it it will be counted or complicate it. Couldn’t see anything on the gov site though.

see if I can find the link

that said it does say savings not a regular kids current account which she has.

My advice is produce everything they ask for.

Capital that's in the Childs name is not counted for UC purposes but there could be issues if the parent has access to it. See link.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-money-savings-and-investments#:~:text=Money%2C%20savings%20and%20investments%20that,ISAs%20and%20Child%20Trust%20Funds.

For anyone else, capital is counted towards the limit, regardless of where it's kept. When they claim UC it asks how much capital you have. If it's under £6,000 they will not need to provide any bank statements.

Their benefits or earnings (if it applies) do not count towards that capital until the end of the following UC assessment period.

Thank you hope yours was nice.

it’s been a bit of a struggle with the impending move to uc coming soon. Just waiting to get through the holidays and time it right and hope for the best.

I don’t do well with things sitting on my mind just sits there festering and I am a worrier.

Probably hasn’t helped reading the how it went wrong internet posts :)

But once I submit I will feel better, I’m sure as I know once it’s all set up I’ll be relieved.

The system is hugely stressful. But a lifeline.

Thank you for your kind post!
