LCW voluntary activity

I am a UC claimant with Limited Capability For Work.
A few weeks ago I got a surprise unexpected email from an organisation called Get Oldham Working and after googling them they appear to be connected with the Local Council and have some connection with National Careers Service. The letter thanked me for registering with them which is odd because I'd never heard of them. When I queried this with them it turned out that the Jobcentre had registered me with them.
I always thought that they weren't allowed to do that without my prior permission as it would represent a breach of my personal data?
Your thoughts please guys.

Morning @Pedro45 I hope you're well?
I've not heard of this before. Although, it's nice that there seems to be local support, I understand your concerns. It would have been better if they'd discussed this with you first, if not just so you weren't taken off guard.
I wonder if there was something signed on the initial forms that perhaps agrees for them to engage third party partners? Might be worth giving them a call to verify It would have been nice for this to be discussed with you first.
I did find this link which points to them using third parties if that's any help.

Best wishes,
Holly.

Hello Holly, thanks for your reply. Sadly I'm not well at the moment due to anxiety.
I don't recall ever been asked to sign any consent form to be referred to that particular organisation or any other to the best of my knowledge. I'm minded to put in an SAR to request copies of any agreements I may have signed. It wouldn't surprise me if no such documents exist so we'll have to wait and see!
I'll check out that link.
Thanks for your help.

With LCW you are expected to do activities in connection with preparation for work. This is probably why your details have been given to this agency by the Jobcentre. I'm guessing it's allowed within the scope of your work preparation activity.

Hi @Pedro45 I'm so sorry your feeling anxious. I can empathise as I struggle with anxiety too sometimes. I hope you're able to find something to keep you occupied, hopefully make you feel a bit better. If you're at a loose end, get yourself to the coffee lounge or games den categories on here. Always makes me smile. 🙂
I do think contacting them to clarify everything when you're feeling up to it will put your mind at ease. Please let me know how you get on (if you don't mind, of course).
Best wishes,
Holly.
