Feeling sad

Feeling really down lately and today is really bad. I had an OT that was supposed to assign me to the correct Therapist for my needs and she kept assigning herself to me for some reason but every session I’d have with her it was really strange in an unprofessional way and felt like I was not getting anywhere every time. I was going through an extremely difficult time a few months ago and she said she had contacted adult social services. I have been waiting to hear from them to help me with my situation and I found out yesterday from my support worker that social services don’t even know I exist. I really need help and this is not good for my mental health.

I went to the drs on the 12th of December and he prescribed me citalopram, I had to chase it up yesterday because I still had not had a note from admin that my prescription was ready and it is now the 3rd of December.

I feel extremely let down as I only have my dad who has clinical depression and am feeling like a burden to him. We are both struggling tremendously and everything just feels hopeless.

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice. Thanks

Is there anyone you can talk to, have a chat with? If not in person, then on the phone or on Zoom or something? We usually feel better if we have talked to someone.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like you’re carrying a lot right now, and I want to acknowledge how strong you are for reaching out and sharing what you’re experiencing. It takes courage to do that, especially when things feel so heavy.
regarding your current therapist: it’s really disappointing when the people meant to help don’t follow through or make you feel unsupported. You deserve a therapist who listens to you and meets your needs. If you’re able, consider reaching out to the Occupational Therapist’s office or their supervisor to formally explain your concerns. This might help them assign you to someone better suited to support you.

About social services, it’s incredibly frustrating to find out they weren’t even contacted. Your support worker might be able to help you get in touch with them directly. You could also contact them yourself and explain your situation—it might feel daunting, but they are there to help.

Please be kind to yourself. You are not a burden. You’re going through an incredibly tough time, and it’s okay to lean on others for support. Would you feel comfortable reaching out to a mental health helpline? There are organizations like Samaritans (116 123 in the UK) that are available 24/7 if you need someone to talk to. They can offer a listening ear and might also be able to point you to additional resources.

Take it one step at a time, and know that there are people out there who care and want to help. You’re not alone, and things can get better.

Oh, I'm sorry. It's awful to feel so bad. You have a right to try to get medications that could make you feel better. However, with all meds, they take time to 'kick-in' so ask your GP about that. She or he should also be aware that your father is depressed. You are not a burden, you just need to work out what is right for you. Take care, E xx

I think you need to let your GP know that you’re struggling and he can establish whether you need assistance from a Mental Health Team, Adult Services or both. He or she should be able to make those referrals for you. You can also make a self referral but I think it’s best coming from a professional. I don’t know why the OT did not make a referral for you and if you are uneasy with her you could approach the Manager of the Team requesting another OT. Trying to manoeuvre through the system is never easy and unfortunately fraught with stresses but if you need help please stick with it. There is help out there for you.

    Take care.
