Is anyone going to celebrate Burns night?

I'm tempted to try to get my family to have one… I love whisky and food and writing, and I've found I like Scotland and Scottish culture. Admittedly, this is through exploring the different whisky distilleries and their history, but I've grown to respect Scottish culture independently of whisky

I'm not sure about haggis though. Maybe the vegan movement will prove itself to be of some use… has a haggis been invented for them that doesn't involve offal cooked in a sheep's stomach?? πŸ˜†

@66Mustang You can buy vegetarian haggis quite easily (M&S sell it, for example). I don't know if you can buy vegan haggis, but here is link to a vegan haggis recipe so you can make your own. Happy Burns Night!

    Thanks Steve!!! πŸ˜ƒ and hi

I'm usually quite experimental with food but I'd struggle with the idea of haggis. Which is a shame as it's meant to be a big thing, and I like sampling culture and stuff …

Thinking about it, of the very few foods I don't like (or don't like the idea of), almost all involve animal products. Maybe there's something in this vegan malarky?

Happy Burns night to you as well 😊 I hope you're keeping well??

Hi to you too @66Mustang Haggis isn't to everyone's taste, and I am not keen myself (no offence to any Scots who may be reading this). I have celebrated Burns Night a few times but have only ever been given a small portion of Haggis which I did eat. I love visiting Scotland but haven't been there for a good few years. I eat all sorts of food and like to eat vegetarian but I am not keen on vegan food. I absolutely love Scotch pies and make them myself now and again, so I may cook some for Burns Night. Stovies was the first dish I was taught to cook (by a Scottish chef) and I love it to this day. The food in Scotland can be very good indeed and is of course very much part of their culture, tradition and history.

@66Mustang your haggis remarks had me laughing out loud. Nearly spat my coffee out! πŸ˜‚

@Steve_in_The_City I've always been similar with Christmas pudding eating a little bit! For some inexplicable reason I've forced myself to eat a small portion of it every Christmas since I was a small child. This year we had one from Fortnum and Mason (we only shop there at Christmas, honest!) and I actually really enjoyed it - I don't know why - it wasn't any different, just a traditional one!!!

r.e. vegan foods I actually really like lots of vegan foods. The one thing I don't understand is plant-based stuff that's meant to look like meat or whatever, like counterfeit bacon. But the honest food that's like "we're made of plants and not ashamed of it" I've always really liked!! Mary Berry does a bean casserole that's one of my favourite meals ever!!!

I hope you have a good Burns night. 😊 Where was your favourite part of Scotland to visit when you used to go??

@Holly_Scope I'm glad you enjoyed that πŸ˜† and hi, I was a member on here for a while but not been about much since last summer, you must be a new Scope person?? Welcome!! πŸ‘ πŸ˜ƒ
