Backdated payment

Hi, after 4 months I finally got a decision today, (in my favour) I phoned them to see what I had been awarded, they told me, but there was no mention of any backpay, so my question is, is backpay always awarded, by the way it was a new claim, any info would be appreciated

As a new claim it will be backdated to the date of application.
Within the next two weeks you'll get a letter, confirming the award, amount of backpay, and date of first monthly payment.
Often the backpay arrives into your bank before the letter arrives 🙂

Thank you kimmy for your reply, it's just that I heard something about a 3 month rule and didn't know what it meant

You've posted in the PIP section, is it PIP you've been awarded?
There is no waiting period/3 month rule for paying new PIP claims.

Yes it was pip I was awarded, I heard that you had to be sick 3 months before you claim pip

The difficulties have to have been present 3 months, yes.
But that doesn't effect payment and you've now been awarded PIP, payment will be backdated to the date of your application.

OK thanks for replying kimmy

It would if the difficulties hadn't be present for at least 3 months. If someone applied before those 3 months were up then payments wouldn't start until those 3 months were up.
There would also be no money owed if they are transferring from DLA, with a DLA award in place.

Does the automated pip line give details about backpay, or do you have to talk to somebody,

No the automated line won't, and it often gives out incorrect information about monthly awards anyway.
You could try and see if a PIP advisor will give that information out on the phone, but not all will.
