Dla past 16
Hello all! Hope all is well.
My eldest son is due to get transition from dla to pipbas he is 16 next month. He has been awarded dla till February 2026. Can anyone please advise me on how to transfer to pip for him and what other benefits he'll be entitled to. Also does anyone know of any careers neurodivergent friendly advice centres. Thanking you In advance.
Hope you all have a good, peaceful weekend

Sorry forgot to ask... does anyone know of any good apprenticeship programs for young people that have mental health issues and other additional needs.
THanks

You should automatically be invited to apply for pip - you can apply to be your son's appointee if he's unable to apply himself. The pip form is very different from the dla one so be sure to get to grips with it to ensure a successful claim.
I'm not in England so will leave others to answer the other part of your question. He could also be entitled to UC.

A letter should be sent out inviting him to apply for PIP. His DLA would then continue until a decision is made on the PIP. Please note, if any potential PIP award is higher than his DLA he would not receive the difference between to two. The PIP payments would start about 7 weeks after the decision is made.
If the worst happens and he's refused PIP his DLA payments would end, even if the decision on the PIP was made before Feb 2026.
For any other benefits he could claim… if he's still in full time non advanced education and you're still claiming benefits for him such as UC child element or tax credits, then he would not be able to claim Universal Credit in his own right.

Thank you Poppy123456.He gets the disability child element with his child tax credits- if he is awarded PIP will be entitled to any other allowances or premiums? As I know the disability premium part tax credits will cease if PIP us awarded.

The tax credits are for you, not for your child. You receive extra tax credits because of their DLA award. If their DLA award is high rate care you should be receiving the higher disabled child element. If it's any other award it would be the lower disabled child.
For PIP, if he's awarded Enhanced daily living then it would be the higher disabled child element. If it's any other award it would be the lower element. If no PIP awarded then the disabled child element would stop completely.
You'll soon be invited to apply for Universal Credit, if you haven't already received your migration letter. Tax credits are ending for everyone from 5th April 2025.
When you claim UC the disabled child elements are lower and higher rates and the same awards are needed for this as they are for tax credits.
There's no other benefits he can claim in his own right at the moment.

Hi @Rubywoo18 hope you're well? Just regarding the work opportunities, it might be worth checking out our employment support services. I've added a link below where you can sign up. They also have a section called "finding disability-friendly employers" which may be helpful.
