Hi all

I am writing my MR letter and this is where I am so far:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request a Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision regarding my claim for the Daily Living component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), as outlined in your letter dated 31st December 2024 (I didn’t receive the letter until 8th Jan 2025)]. I believe the decision does not accurately reflect my needs and the difficulties I face in daily living.

Reason for Request

I respectfully disagree with the points awarded for the Daily Living component in the following areas:

Preparing food:

Points awarded: 2

In my interview I described that cooking and preparing food was almost impossible. I have very little strength in my arms and legs. I cannot stand at the kitchen benches and cannot hold pots, pans in case I spill or drop things. My husband now completes these tasks. I think a score of 2/8 doesn’t reflect the difficulties I am having.

Eating and Drinking:

Points awarded: 0

In my interview I described the difficulties I have eating & drinking. My husband has to cut my food up for me as my hands have lost their strength. I also described how swallowing liquids is difficult and that using a straw was easier.I think a score of 0/8 does not reflect the problems I am having.

Managing Your Treatments:

Points awarded: 0

I my interview I described how my husband helps me with my injections. I inject into my stomach and there is a lot of scar tissue from previous surgeries so getting the right spot to inject is very difficult and my husband helps me with this.I think a score of 0/8 does not reflect the problems I am having.

Washing and Bathing:

Points awarded: 2

Managing Your Toilet Needs:

Points awarded: 2

Dressing and Undressing:

Points awarded: 0

Communicating

Points awarded 0

Reading

Points awarded 0

Mixing with other people

Points awarded 0

Making budgeting decisions

Points awarded 0

I haven't filled in any more info yet as I dont know if Im going along the right lines. Any advice.

Janice

That’s not enough of information there. At this stage it doesn’t matter what you said during the assessment so you need to move on from that.

For example, preparing food. Carrying pots and pans around the kitchen isn’t considered in this activity. If you scored those 2 points for needing an aid they’ve already acknowledged you are unable to stand because the aid would be a perching stool. Why exactly do you need your husband to prepare and cook your food? What exactly happened the last time you attempted this activity? Why isn’t the aid helpful to you?

You need to give real world examples for each descriptor that applies to you. Including information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were.

It would also be useful to have a read of this before proceeding further with the MR request. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria#daily-living-activities
