National Pie Day
It's National Pie Day! Pies have been around for thousands of years, and who doesn't love a pie filled with something sweet or savory.
History of National Pie Day
National Pie Day is said to have started around the mid-1970s, by an American called Charlie Papazian. No one is sure why he decided to start this day, but it is also said to be his birthday. Ever since 1986, it has become an official celebration.
I love pies! I would struggle to say which are my favourite, fruit pies with custard, chicken or steak pie with gravy, pork pie with mushy peas!
It's just making me hungry writing about it.
Which pie would you choose and what would you have it with?
You can get all different pies these days to fit dietary or personal choice, vegan, gluten free, diary free etc.
There are also pies which aren't even pastry based, such as shepherd's and cottage pie. I actually make a few different pies which have a mash potato topping, bacon pie, chicken and leek pie, just to name two favourites. Would you swap pastry for mash?
So, who is going to have a pie tonight? and which one savory, sweet or even both?

What a great idea! It'll have to be some sort of fruit pie🍎 although I won't confine eating pies to today!😉
