A friend has just told me that, as a 68 year old (With a rare neuro condition) my PIP and mobility payments will be axed in April.I can see that the Government is intent on cutting the benefits bill but nothing that directly says this is true.

Am I missing something ?

It won't be axed in April. It'll be uprated in April, but not axed.

There is different stages for a new policy to become law. Any changes to PIP will take a long time to come into effect.

Thankyou for your swift reply. I think the way in which the WFA was axed in what seemed like overnight has put the scarers on

I did have a letter saying that my award would be lifelong (There is no cure or treatment for me)when I reached pension age,but it seems that this could be overturned

Common sense says that its new claimants who will suffer most

Your post is reassuringly sensible…. Thankyou

WFA didn't have the same legal protections as it was an annual payment.

as Ironside said you can relax for a fair while yet.

WFA was a government perk, not written into legislation as welfare benefits are.

Perhaps PIP rates will follow the same path as the £10 Christmas bonus, either remaining frozen or increasing by a small amount each year.

It increases every April. April is the start of a new financial year, so benefits go up by 1.7% to keep up with inflation.

This is some rather horrible misinformation. A lot of it has been going around for months now. I would not just believe everything you hear and read on the internet but always double check sources and ensure the source is reputable! It sounds like your friend may have mistakenly believed a less reputable source.

Thankyou for taking the time to post.
I see now that I have allowed myself to be drawn into reading what amounts to garbage and listening to scaremongering .
