Wednesday: Statement on Benefits

It's related to the Government's welfare spend cap, not the individual household one.

She's yapping now on Sky News but on Oxfordshire visit so might not cover welfare/benefits just when I've sat down to rest and get my breath 🙄

Thank you for correcting me I’m not used to reading direct off of the Parliament website. Just wish they’d get on with it so we can have some clarity I feel like I can’t do anything today until I’ve heard what they’re going to say

Rachel Reeves has nearly completed her speech on BBC 2. Benefit reform details will be done by Liz Kendall speech later today.

Oh god i cant watch kendell could they put a benefit cap overnight

What does the cap mean i can feel me bubbling inside like a volcano this is unbearable its from 12 someone said on here im not watching liz kendell i just cant watch her

Sorry my mistake I thought it meant benefit cap for individuals but I was wrong it’s total government spending on benefits apparently has gone above the cap. I’ve just read on the Parliament website and it says this
this House agrees that the forecast breach of the welfare cap in 2024–25 due to higher forecast expenditure on Universal Credit and disability benefits is justified and that no further debate will be required in relation to this specific breach.
This is the link where I read it

Oooh Kendall, her voice goes through me as well.

Exactly right . They could have stopped all the changes straight away but chose not to . They immediately stopped other Tory ideas so they always intended to carry through the welfare reforms. They think they can just blame the Tory’s when they get any backlash even though they have a majority.

Anyone know what time Kendell speeches on ?

I saw a muted video on social media over the weekend with Kendali in an interview about "no life on benefits" her mannerisms were like an aggressive rabid dog, without hearing a word of her drivel I could confidently summarise that she is a very bitter and out of her depth person.
I have no intention of watching her floorshow. I strongly suggest those who severely worry don't either and wait for a reliable source to post the layman's term version.

where ever I turn it’s about benefits and disabled people. I’ve never had social anxiety but over the last few weeks I’ve been even worried to leave the house, people’s prejudice and all despite being a senior leaf clinician in the NHS for nearly 20 years contributing to the economy. I also had conversations with my UC services this morning regarding some ongoing issues and been advised to “DO AS TOLD “ almost in a dictatorship style with no one prepared to listen to what me or my wife has to say . Until things are taken to court, there is only their side of the story . Wish I had the means to have a personal lawyer with me all the time. I feel so weary and tired by just fighting these people and now look at the government … Truly Shame on them , this is Direct discrimination of our fundamental rights of being a citizen in a democratic country. I think I need to switch off somehow. I’ve had enough 😥

My GP said not to worry as they always say they’re cutting disability benefits but never do . Hopefully she’s right

I can definitely sympathise with you as the media has taken me under a few times with their rhetoric and any correspondence with the DWP I really struggle with. I’m just waiting to see what actually gets said today I’m hoping it’s not going to be too bad but I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through. Too many of us here are suffering unnecessarily :(

Aye, sharing a couch with Andrew Neil and Michael Portillo is as bad as it gets for me!

She is.
History shows us what I personally call the "yawn cycle" because it's a repeated bore that usually goes.
- Announce changes and cuts.
- Test Waters.
- Get backlash
- lose court cases
- MPs make amendments
- government panics
- original plans get watered down significantly or delayed or binned.
- Any that make it change nothing or take about ten years.
- Appeals, court cases, worsened health because of the cruel attempt that always fail end up costing MORE money than ever
rinse and repeat every 5-10 years because they are absolutely thick and useless

thank you for such a kind and supportive message . It truly meant a lot to me in the vulnerable state I am in. Best wishes to you too

It was a committee questioning the dwp, one was putting job coaches in doctors. About fraud, that they have means and whys of finding people have gone abroad.

Hi nightcity, I remember when PIP first came out. I’ve still not recovered from my first assessment. Without wanting to jinx myself my last assessment was very long ( over 2 hours) but I at least kept my award . Point being they can’t take away a person’s right to eat and live independently, they can only keep changing the system which doesn’t save money as people are still sick and disabled. IMO they’d save money by keeping assessments paper based in house like DLA. Atos etc is where they could make savings.
