Direct payments for pa
Hello,
I wanted to get more information on how exactly direct payments work, Would it be possible to get someone i know as my PA?, She doesn’t live in the same house as me and she is not my family but also she is not a professional carer if that makes sense, She isn’t someone a agency has sent etc. I have just known her for a few years and she looks after me nicely and knows everything about me
How does the payments work do i get them and then i pay her and who choices how much the per hour will be?

Have you had a needs assessment from your local Authority? This will need to be completed first before anything else. From that they will determine if there’s any help they can give.
If there is you will then need to have a financial assessment to determine how much you need to pay towards your care. You can just apply for direct payments.

How does a needs assessment work is it similar to the pip assessment? Or is it all done via paperwork, only asking because i went through loads of stress going through the pip assessment

It’s likely to be a home visit from an Occupational Therapist. You can refer yourself here
It’s not like a PIP assessment. At least that wasn’t my experience. I found them extremely helpful when I had mine a couple of years ago. I was asked how I managed at home and the difficulties I had. I have physical health conditions.
