My son is 25, he has aspergers and is on esa and pip. He is moving to his own home soon to gain some independence. Is there any financial help available either help with the bond and 1st months rent or for furniture etc

Your local council would be a starting point, they often have schemes to help in order to keep people away from applying for social housing.

You should have local charity shops which offer low cost furniture, also look in Marketplace, local Facebook groups, and see if you have Freegle/Freecycle in the area.

Your son due to PIP would be allowed the one bedroom rate for rent.

He will need to apply for Universal Credit to get help with rent, paid through Housing Element.

Private rents use the LHA rate which often doesn't cover the full rent.

Hi @joanne65, welcome to the community 😊 Is your son looking forward to his own home? It's a big step!

When it comes to moving home your Local Authority is the best place to start asking. They have schemes to support this sort of thing. If your son also needs adaptations to live independently you could consider asking that as well, you can read more here: Getting home adaptations | Disability charity Scope UK
