Received my migration letter
Hi I'm new! I have received a migration letter for UC that has to be claimed by some time in March. I've been on ESA support group for many years now. I'm a single mum to a 5yr old son with suspected ASD, ADHD & SPD. I'm really confused on where to start. I'm worried about having to wait 5 weeks if I claim when we already are struggling so much financially! Could anyone tell me when the best time is to claim UC? Should I wait until a day or two after I receive my "last" ESA payment to make a claim just so we have something? If so would the 2 week run on still apply?
Thanks x

Hi,
Yes, the best day to submit the claim in terms of payment frequency is the day after your ESA payment. You will still get another ESA payment 2 weeks after that one, meaning that your waiting period then ends up being only 3 weeks rather than 5.
If you will still struggle with a 3 week wait, you can choose to have an advance payment on UC. Just be aware that it is a loan and will need to be paid back in instalments over following UC payments.
