The transition to UC...finished

After all the ups and down, the convoluted online forms with the entrapment questions, the pointless trip the DHSS office, I have say its wasn't as bad as expected but there could still make alot of improvements for people making the new claims.
I don't see how give someone 3 payments each months instead of 2 is alot simpler and better?

It's because UC is a means tested benefit designed to replace legacy means tested benefits.
Your son's ESA was part Contributions Based so that bit changed to New Style ESA, CB benefits are outside the remit of UC.
I agree there is (quite a lot of) room for improvement for the migration process 😊
