Verify appointee HELP

Hello,

I'm currently on LCWRA, and I've been asked to come to the job center to verify my appointee. The issue is that my appointee has an expired passport, which means they cannot be verified without a valid passport. I’ve been informed that if I miss my appointment again, they will suspend and close my claim.

Can anyone offer advice on what I can do in this situation? Thank you.

Hi @jamie2471, have they specifically asked for a valid passport? If you or someone you know has access to your journal perhaps you could put a message on there to ask whether another form of photo ID or a combination of other identity forms would be suitable.

    How soon is the appointment?

Hope you can find a solution!

hi they are already my appointee on pip without passport verification but uc are asking for valid passport to verify appointee on there and they don't have anything else is it best to just remove them as my apontee?

A recently expired passport is ok. I'm sure they would take a combination of other documents though - ask in the journal.

Think carefully before removing them as appointee (unless you want to put another appointee in place?) because if your claim runs into any bother you will need to deal with DWP on your own. And they aren't the easiest to deal with sometimes!

Someone could still support you unofficially but it would be more of the responsibility on you if your claim ever ran into trouble (with overpayments or a claim review for eg)

With an appointee - they would take all that worry off your shoulders and sort it out on your behalf. With a good appointee, you'd never even know there had been any problems on your UC account. They'd keep it all ticking along for you.

As they are already your appointee for PIP then there should be no need to attend your Local job centre to verify their identity. As you have an appointee already in place you shouldn't be attending your local job centre at all and it's wrong that they are asking you to do that.

If they want to be awkward and ask your appointee for ID then they should attend theirself. There's other ID they can take to confirm their ID, such as bank statement, council tax letter, energy bill letter etc etc.

I would advise your appointee to start by making a complaint about the way they are handling this. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/how_to_complain_about_universal_credit
