PIP confusion

Hi, my terminally ill dad is claiming PIP. My mother is disabled and has recently deteriorated to the point were he is now having to care for her full time. It is possible for him to claim carers allowance for her as we are in the process of applying for attendance allowance for her? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Hello @Nessa2010 and welcome to the community.
Do your parents claim any other benefits or state pension at all?
Claiming PIP won't stop your dad from being able to claim Carer's Allowance (if your mother is awarded Attendance Allowance), but depending on their situation it may not be the best course of action.

Hi, yes both are retired.

I would suggest doing a benefits calculation for both situations, him claiming Carer's Allowance and him not. Depending on their full situation they could be entitled to SDP, which could then entitle them to pension credit, but without knowing their entire financial circumstances, it would be impossible for us to advise.
If she receives Attendance Allowance, him claiming PIP will not prevent him from claiming Carer's Allowance for caring for her though.

@Nessa2010 I would get some local welfare rights advice link below.
