It's good to find you 😊. I have been disabled for very many years, made worse by a misdiagnosis in my teens. Now 70 years old and widowed, with no family, everything is becoming more difficult to cope with and I'm struggling with tasks which were never any bother before.

Have you reached out to social services for a needs assessment?

Even if you don't need care, they can recommend & supply equipment and aids to help you with those tasks.

Your GP surgery might also have a social prescriber.

Sometimes it's also worth thinking of different ways of doing things, to find a method that is easier for you.

Thank you, Kimmy87, I've had several needs assessments following discharges from hospital which were helpful at those times. I'm on the Enhanced PIP and live in a shared ownership Supported Living development so carers help with my numerous medications but only in the morning. It used to be 4 times daily but was so expensive, I worried constantly. None of us know how long we are going to live or how much care we might need in the future. Oh, for a crystal ball! I'd never heard of Social Prescribing but will have a look at the link, thanks.

Hi to everyone, I have recently swapped cars because my walker wouldn't fit into the previous car. The process of taxing a vehicle these days can all be done online if you pay but if you have a Blue Badge and are exempt, you MUST go physically to a Post Office with relevant documents. So you pay for road tax in order to drive your car to a P.O., then you can claim a refund. Dealing with disability itself and the ever-closing Post Office branches, this seems absurd. How on earth can this be fair?

The problem with road tax exemption is that they need to change the tax class on your V5 logbook, and also confirm you have a Mobility benefits award in place. (Blue badge alone does not entitle anyone to free tax).

It could never be done online instantly like paying for normal road tax. Though I think they could make an electronic form to fill in, and upload the necessary documents so you wouldn't have to drive to a post office.
