Any help with my UC award amount?
I am in receipt of UC. Single parent over 25 yoa to 2 children.private rent of 1250 pcm. 1200 gets paid direct to landlord, I top up the other other 50. My wages this month are 2300 due to a tax adjustment, so will be considerably lower next month. Can anyone help me work out how much uC award I will be getting/rent paid please. My housing element is normally 1200. Any help or advice would be great, just so I can allow and budget from my wages to pay extra to my rent etc if needed.

Hello @Smiley1984
Is the £2300 figure you're referring to your after-tax and National Insurance amount? I’ve assumed it is for the details below.
The work allowance for your situation is £404. This is the amount you can earn before any deductions are made from your Universal Credit (UC) award.
To calculate the deduction based on these earnings, you would take your wages after tax and National Insurance, subtract the work allowance, and then apply the wage taper of 55p for every £1 earned.
So, £2300 (your wages) - £404 (work allowance) leaves £1896. You then apply the wage taper: £1896 x 0.55 = £1042.80.
This means the deduction for your earnings from your total UC award (the amount shown near the top before deductions) will be £1042.80.
If you have any other deductions, such as for savings, loan repayments, or overpayments, these will also be deducted.
If you need more help or if anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to ask. If you're able to share your UC statement (removing any personal details), I’d be happy to provide a more detailed answer.

Hello @Smiley1984
From the figures you've shared, your UC award after deductions should be £1063.13 which will be paid directly to your landlord for rent.
So your UC award will be £0 with only £1063.13 being paid to your landlord, so you'll need to pay the rent shortfall of £186.87 from your earnings.

@Morgan_Scope amazing. Thank you so much Really helpful and appreciated. I assume they will always pay what ever my award is to my landlord, before giving me any surplus. Thanks again

That's correct, as you have an alternative payment arrangement for them to pay your rent direct, they will pay that first and any surplus to you.
