Agoraphobia

I suffer with agoraphobia. I’ve not left the house since Christmas Day which is the longest it’s been so far. I avoid everything like the plague just have telephone appointments etc & I’m getting scared that this is going to turn into a lifelong thing 😢 I just want to be normal again. Has anyone got any advice on how to pull myself back out of this? Personal experience’s?😖

Hi @Holly54321 it's a great start that you're talking about this. ☺️ I can't imagine how difficult it's been for you, especially over the past few months. Have you engaged with any specialist services for support with this via your GP? Appreciate that's likely a huge step, but it might be a start if they're able to support. Sorry I can't help with personal experience, but I hope other members who might share similar experiences see this and add their advice.
Wishing you all the best. Please keep us in the loop if you're happy to.

Hi @Holly_Scope,
My GP is aware of my anxiety and depressive disorder but not so much about the agoraphobia side of things. I have attempted step 3 CBT but it’s so intrusive I ended up stopping it😞 the anxiety makes it so difficult to pick up the phone and open up about everything.. or maybe I just wasn’t ready.
Thankyou for your kind words though it means a lot🙂0 -
Hi @Dean111986,
I’m sorry that you’re going through this too! I am currently taking Sertraline 150mg and Propranolol 40mg 3 times daily. I wish I could say it’s a miracle cure but I’m still not feeling any major changes in my mood😖 been on them a few months now too

Hi I’ve been suffering with Agoraphobia and Claustrophobia for almost 2 years, I’ve been having intense therapy for the last few months yes it opens up a lot of things but it’s good to talk to someone who understands, I have chronic pain illness along with a bunch of other medical problems which don’t help and also ibs. I would definately recommend getting in touch with a therapist most are available through nhs or your gp, they will help you understand what is going on and use a gently gently approach, my therapist has been brilliant.
