Hello,

Recevied my first statement this morning and wanted some advice if its correct. I see there is no TP added or deduction for the TC overpayment, maybe that will be next month.

what I got before

ESA - Support group £481.10

TC £187.84

Rent was covered in HB

Statement says

Standard allowance £393.45

Housing £685.72 (rent is just under £170)

Children x 3 £909.17

Limited capability for work is £416.19

Is that correct ?

My standard allowance limited capability for work combines is less than my esa ?

And there is no payment for TP ? (should there be from the numbers above ?)

Be grateful of any help.

Transitional Protection is added if your total UC award is lower than legacy benefits.

So it isn't just the ESA vs LCWRA & Standard Allowance in isolation.

TP isn't always added in time for the first statement, as UC rely on multiple pieces of information coming from different places.

I can tell the ESA is a fortnightly figure, monthly your amount was £1042.38

(multiply the weekly by 52, then divide by 12)

Is the tax credits figure weekly, fortnightly or 4 weekly?

    Tax credit was weekly

Excluding rent, your UC entitlement is currently £1.718.81

    I make legacy benefits £1042.38 ESA + £813.97 Tax Credits =£1856.35

Allowing for another £45 (monthly rent figure versus weekly), I think you might be due some Transitional Protection.

Add a note onto your Journal stating you believe you are due Transitional Protection as your UC award is lower than legacy benefits, and that Transitional Protection has not been included with your payment.

They responded already and said legacy benefits totalled £1710.84

    UC totals £1718.18

They said no TP will be applied as I'm not worse off

asked again if they are sure.

they’ve just sent a message on the journal saying transitional protection has been added and I have a revised statement showing with it.

    Was about £200 down

I guess that’s it for now they have done better than I expected and only one issue with tp.

now to concentrate on pips renewal!
