Wheelchair & accessible garden design - and don't make the mistake we made

A warning on the importance of research research research … and not to sign off on something unless your 150% happy..

Rather than paving, our designer convinced us that 'self binding gravel' (like Nat Trust property type paths) would be OK. A bit reluctant but we agreed to go ahead. Now there's nothing wrong with the design much, or the raised beds.. But we really should have gone for paving. Or waited to find a better design with more research.. Hindsight is a terrible thing.
And we wanted the garden done…

There was also a few things that didn't go into the design, grid blocks to hold the surface in, and drainage that I requested.. This means that the surface IS uneven.. More like a beach in places than a level surface..

Yes it would have put the price up.. But we had funds and were wanting the 'right' garden!..

The girl, with MS, says the surface feels like walking on glass marbles (such is the nervous system.) Although she's fine with hanging up the washing. The gardening still falls to me. 99% of the time.
