Can UC look into your bank details before your claim started?
Hi everyone again.
Something has been bugging me for the past few days. When a claim review does happen in future. Can UC ask for bank statements before claim has started or is it the standard 4 months statements?
I’ve seen on here and elsewhere people have been asked for claim reviews just a month or so after the start of their claim. Also seen elsewhere and on here you only get asked for bank statements from start of the claim if you get over £6000? Are any of these true?
I’ll never be anywhere near £6000 in the future regardless.

If UC suspect deprevation of capital they can ask for statements dating further back, including before your claim started as someone could have disposed of money purely so they qualified for UC payments.
As previously advised these reviews are random, not everyone will have one, and those that do will have differing age of claims. I have seen people have them one month in, others several years in.
If you have under £6k when applying you are not asked to supply statements as part of the application process.

Hi Kimmy, thanks for the reply. I’m hoping I’ll be left alone and not have a review for several years!
When you mentioned “If UC suspect deprevation of capital they can ask for statements dating further back.” I take it that means if I go over £6000 at anytime and don’t declare it or does it mean something else.
