I spoke to a social services needs assessment person and I have requested a written needs assessment even though I don't want carers as my family support me, basically I have done this so I have a written document statement of my care needs and what I need help with, thoughts please, I did say I didn't want to waste anyone's time or resources but how else can u prove your recieve alot if help from family

I don't think you've done anything wrong, they might come up with a suggestion or two as well that would benefit you in the future.

Needs assessments aren't just about physical carers they look at everything, can suggest different equipment or signpost you to a service that you didn't know about.

An outside look at your problems is beneficial because we get into our routines and ways of doing things, used to our ways of coping, whereas an outsider brings a new perspective and a neutral evaluation.

It'll be interesting to see what they come back to you with. Hopefully something constructive. I can well understand you not wanting ' professional carers ' in. But might not be a bad thing if you're on social services radar. Just in case your family are ever unable to get to you.

It was suggested I had ' professional carers ' in a couple of years ago but I flatly refused. My background was care work, both in private sector and social services and, being honest , some of the staff I wouldn't have let look after my goldfish! That said, there are some good staff out there. I'm fortunate I have a lovely friend looks after me. He keeps me out of a care home! I want to keep my independence.

I don't want carers or need as we mananger it aso the evidence for next pip review I'm after, they dropped me to low arte care standard but I carnt wash my hair or dress upper body unaided apart from evidence letter from go and diagnosed dislocation of shoulder and fibromyalgia, I have ot reports still no good carnt face the fight emotionally atm I don't have it in me decided I'm gonna gather as much evidence as i can in mean time ready for 2027 review daft but I'm obsessing over it

I had an assessment and it basically paved the way for adaptations I needed such as rails putting in which has honestly been such a huge help. My husband provides all of my one to one care and I think given the recent green paper it will be helpful to have as much proof of disability needs as possible to show when we next have reviews. I have requested being sent back to physio for this reason to have a full assessment. I want to have their report to hand in when my review is next due. I have been wondering about how much extra strain the recent green paper will have put on GP services as a direct knock on effect as I think disabled people will be asking for extra help they have not used before as they didn't want to make a fuss but now it could go against them so they will be using every avenue open to them. It is beyond ridiculous and I don't think Labour have really thought through the knock on effects.

My husband is my registered carer and has a carers badge that he carries with him at all times. We have a care plan In place and on ihis badge is a number to ring if anything happens to him. One of my best friends would be called to instigate the care plan. I don't have professional carers.

can you imagine if everybody has the same idea as you, this will cause a backlog in people waiting for assessments who actually need that assessment for equipment etc. while I can understand it’s a scary time for everyone at the moment jamming up the system for support letters is not the answer. Sorry I don’t mean to be unsympathetic but please remember there are actually people waiting for those assessments that actually need the service of social services OT’s and the service is struggling to maintain that service due to the high demand. Until we know exactly what this Government is actually setting up for the new PIP processes, we need to try and not jump the gun and create over sourcing (for supporting letters) for an already over subscribed service.

As OP is reliant on care provided by family, I think it's sensible to get themselves known to the system. If family is unable to meet their needs in future due to a change of circumstances, then their needs would already be known to adult services.

Totally agree with you Kimmy87, from that perspective but will reiterate that Adult Services is for the following not for supporting letters for PIP.

@charl1980 it was through a charity called carersmatters but I'm not sure if its just local to us.

Charl1980 sorry misunderstood I hope you manage to get the help and support you need, these are vary trying times in regards to Labours ongoing financial attacks on public services.
