GP
Hi, I am 62 years old and was given co-codamol for back pain two years ago and later Tramadol medicine. I had been using co-codamol medicine for a year when I realised I was actually using opioid medicine. I got used to the medicine so I asked my GP to give me the opportunity to change the medicine with the help of a psychologist but the GP refused any help. I then tried to get a referral to a psychologist on the NHS myself because I want to stop using drugs but they are not responding to my letter. Does anyone know what I can do without a GP referral, I would like to get help from a psychologist to stop using drugs, who can I talk to who would help me with this, thanks if anyone can help Esther.

Hi @Esther0 I'm sorry to hear you're not having any luck with your GP. Have you asked about possibly tapering the co-codamol? Could you meet in the middle somewhere? Your GP should take this seriously as withdrawal from opioids is a serious matter.

Hi Esther, welcome to Scope. Sorry to hear your GP wasn’t much help. Why not give Prescription Drug Addiction a try? Here’s the link:
