hi my partner passed away 2 weeks ago. i am on enhanced pip for care and mobility. when i was on job seekers years ago i was on ESA because of health problems. now am far worse. it got cancelled because not enough tax or insurance paid so it got stopped. im not entitled to uc because no rent or mortgage as partner paid mortgage off. only disability allowed but i have to prove it. im under neurosurgeons and lots of other professionals with different illnesses. can they do this. im worried tests they do going to make my neck and spine worse after my 2 operations, and im still not right. been told can be upto 8 operations and still may not work.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

From what you've written yes it's correct that you need to get a Fit Note and start the Work Capability Assessment process. Unfortunately your PIP has no impact on your UC claim.

I am so sorry for your loss, and I truly understand how difficult it is when you first lose your husband. I am also a widow, and I know how overwhelming this time can be. When my husband passed, I was in a similar situation, receiving PIP, but since I was working, I wasn’t eligible for other benefits, so I can’t offer specific advice on that.

However, you should be entitled (as I was) to the bereavement support payment. It’s available regardless of income, savings or whether you’re working or not, so I’d suggest applying for it. I received a one-off payment of £2,500, followed by £100 a month for the next 18 months, after which the payments stop. I truly hope this information helps you during this difficult time. Sending you a virtual hug. xx
