Pain management clinic

Hi I hope I’m posting in right forum? I’ve waited 10 months for my first appointment . Got a letter saying this will be an hours phone call appointment next month . Is this normal? Included was the questionnaire sheet for anxiety/depression for your scores . It’s a psych Therapist who’s ringing me. I’m bit taking back tbh about it been a call and I know all that comes into play with anxiety / depression but big part of me was hoping this is where I get answers and giving the time to go over everything I’ve suffered from for a lot of years and get answers too . Have I got it all wrong with what l was expecting ?

@dendoo,
Sorry to hear about your health issues and the long wait for your pain clinic appointment.
Waiting so long is far from ideal. Where I live, I was on the NHS pain clinic waiting list for 14 months and near the end of the first year, I even received a letter asking if I was still in pain or if I had improved enough to be discharged. It was unbelievable, given that I’ve been living with pain since 2009.
The difference between you and me is that after my 14-month wait, I finally saw a pain consultant not a psychologist only for them to then create a treatment plan (epidural, nerve block, spinal stimulator, CBT, etc.), which meant joining yet another waiting list for treatment. It’s a truly awful system, and despite raising concerns, nothing has changed.
Since your call is with a psychologist, I’m guessing it might be for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)—but that’s just an assumption. From what I’ve heard from friends and colleagues, pain clinic waiting lists across the country are ridiculously long.
Wishing you all the best and hope all goes well for you 👍1 -
Hi I’ve already done 2 lots cbt sessions courses 6wk/ 12 wks in the meanwhile. I approached mh myself cos I needed help . I guess I will have to wait a bit longer and see what comes of it . I guess 2 different areas and they don’t always tell each other . I’m glad you finally got seen too . I don’t mind waiting I’m used to it lol x
