Hi, I'm in a difficult situation. Our landlord sent us a section 13 stating that our rent was increasing in oct 24 by £400. After negotiating with him over the phone he told us to start paying the increased rent from January 2025. When i tried to update UC in January they didn't accept that section 13 as it said october but we would be paying from January. We attended job centre many times but nothing changed and UC keep showing our old rent. So I left a msg early January that we won't accept the increase. But after doing some research we realised that we wouldn't get any house in our range so agreed to pay the landlord the increased rent from end of January without updating UC as it wasn't going anywhere with them. Now it's April and I'm losing sleep over the matter that if there's a review they'd see that we've been paying more rent than what uc know. We're already getting the maximum lha rate and paying the extra from our wages.

I don't know what to do if theres a review. I have a severely disabled child and I'm barely hanging on. Should I just let it be and explain if theres a review or should I let them know but then again there will be appointments and no resolution

Thankyou for reading all this

UC doesn't always cover the full rent, the tenant topping up rent is a completely normal transaction.

Also if you are already getting the maximum I wouldn't worry that you haven't been able to update UC.

But would they cause trouble when they find out I've been paying more rent without informing them. Which isn't correct because I did try to inform them multiple times but they didn't accept it.
