What happens after PIP review is denied?

Hello Everyone,

I've just posted my PIP review form and I'm worried that it will be stopped as it's for mental health.

My current award is until October. If my PIP is stopped after review, will I still get it until October, or does it stop immediately?

Any information/advice will be massively appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi @MoochingMinnie, sorry to hear you're feeling worried about your PIP review, it's never easy. As far as I'm aware, if your PIP review believes that you are no longer eligible, they will give you a date when your payments will stop. From what I could find, this is usually within a couple of weeks after the decision has been made but I hope one of our members might be able to offer some more direct experience of this.

Hopefully your award won't be stopped, but if it is, you can still challenge the result in a mandatory reconsideration. Fingers crossed it all goes through okay ☺️

If it was stopped after review, it would stop immediately.

But - if your condition is the same or worse, it won't stop!

Are you worrying about these welfare cuts?

Please remember, they don't come into November 2026 at the ealiest! And nothing is set in stone yet. The changes might never happen!

For you though, right now - you will be reviewed on current criteria so try not to worry too much.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it (sorry I don't know how to reply individually).

Admittedly, I'm terrified that it'll be stopped. Just need to wait and see.

Dreadfully worried at the moment, it's all I think about.

If PIP is stopped does this mean that ESA is stopped too?

Sorry for more questions, I'm seriously worried.

    Thanks

Hi @MoochingMinnie, please don't worry about asking too many questions, that's what we're here for 😊 it's not an easy time and you're definitely not alone in how you're feeling about it all.

PIP and ESA are usually separate benefits, so you wouldn't automatically lose your ESA if your PIP was stopped.
