Check your May UC statement

Last week were going back through of UC statements and on the 28th of March this year we discovered that UC had updated our May 2025 statement and reduced our Housing Benefit. Having chased and eventually made a complaint ( as we had nowhere been notified about this !) we have been told that our LHA rates didn’t change until the 8th of April 2024 and because our May statement was for the period of April the 4th onwards then we only get the 2023 LHA amount ( not the increased 2024 amount ) and that they are updating a lot of statements. This seems highly unfair as any increase in LHA is usually from the 1st of April and it is a DWP/ UC error. We requested a MR even though we didn’t actually have notification of it and UC have said we had a debt of £240. Just wanted people to go back and check your May statements as you might get a surprise !!

it’s a pretty big deal. We’ve noticed a few people in our area have had the sane problem. We fall under Worthing - so not sure if it is just Worthing from the 8th of April or a national problem.

just an update if anyone is having this issue DWP advisor tells me they have 100 of claims now ! We have provided evidence directly from the valuation office that shows the rates changed from the 1st of April 2024 .
