I have contacted the advice shop my husband is in receipt of pip high levels for both he claims esa for both of us and is in the support group . I enquired to see if he was eligible for the severe disability premium and was told no because he had a partner ( myself) I do not claim carers allowance and never have . I have read that he should still be eligible for this benefit but the advice shop is saying other wise

Even if no one claims Carers Allowance or Carers Element (UC) for looking after him, he still isn't eligible for the SDP unless you yourself claim a qualifying benefit:

    • Attendance Allowance (or Constant Attendance Allowance paid with Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit or War Pension)
    • Pension Age Disability Payment (Scotland)
    • Disability Living Allowance care component at the middle or highest rate
    • Personal Independence Payment daily living component
    • Adult Disability Payment (Scotland) daily living component
    • Armed Forces Independence Payment
