Hi , My partner who is severly disabled and i am her carer My partner will be 66 in July this year We have been notified that we will no longer be getting U.C after her 66th birthday
Do you know if housing benefit and council tax will also end at that date if so can we make a claim for housing benefit and council tax benefit to our local council
We can not understand why i will lose carers when our U.C stops as my partner will need careing for life Is there anything i can claim ?
My partner has been disabled since birth and she has got a lot worse over the years She was on D.L.A and since 2019 has been getting P.I.P She has an indefinate award for higher rate on both parts of P.I.P She scored 4 points on 4 of the daily activies 2 on another and 1 on another . Total points 19 for the daily living and 12 points for mobility
She is now finding it very hard to get out the house and her doctor has her an the house bound list
I was just wondering if you think the reforms to P.I.P will affect her claim I know it is worrying time for everyone on P.I.P .Not knowing what will happen .
Any help in this would be appriciated

Hi Kimi87
Sorry for delay in replying
I am 70 years old and yes i get state pension0 -
UC is a working age benefit, that is why UC will end along with Carers Element.
Carers Allowance cannot be paid at the same time as a full state pension. However, you can still apply and be given "underlying entitlement".
This would increase your chance of a successful Pension Credit claim, but isn't a guarantee.
Yes, you need to apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction via your local authority, once your partner reaches SPA.

THank you so much for your advice
I understand about benefits stop when reaching pension age
Where do i make claim to for underlying entilement for carers0 -
You would apply for Carers Allowance by post or online.
Both underlying entitlement to CA, and Pension Credit if successful, might boost your Housing Benefit & CTR awards.

Do i apply for the underlying entitlement
through U.C or direct to carers
Thank you0 -
You apply through Carers Allowance.
