Managed migration from ESA to UC

Hi, new here so not sure how things work but hoping someone can help with my query.
My son is on highest level of ESA, severely disabled and he's just had to move over to UC. He put the claim in on the day after he got his fortnightly payment and I was under the impression that legacy benefits carry on for two weeks after the claim is put in, so we were expecting one more fortnightly payment to help tide him over, but he didn't get it. Did I get it wrong and would it be worth trying to ring them, as I've heard it's almost impossible to ever get through? Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi,
You are correct, he should still have got one more ESA payment.
It would be ESA you have to phone about this, not UC.
There is also the option of getting an advance payment from UC if he needs the money urgently. That can be requested through the UC journal once the account is setup. The advance does need to be repaid but only in small amount from future payments.

Thank you. I guess I'll have a go at ringing them and hopefully get it sorted. 😁
