Appointee question

Hello, my name is Aileen and I am new to this forum. I hope someone might know the answer to my question regarding the appointee.
my son has a learning disability but I have never claimed any benefits for him until he turned 16. I have applied for PIP on his behalf in January and in March we had a phone assessment during which I was speaking for him the whole time and the assessor only confirmed with him his name and date of birth. I was not his appointee. A week after the assessment I received a call from DWP saying that someone will call us to arrange a visit to our home to see if my son needs appointee and if I am a suitable person to be one.
I asked how long it was going to take. They couldn’t really answer. It’s the end of April now and still no one has contacted me. I was told they can’t pay PIP until my son has appointee. So I was wondering if anyone who has any experience in this knows how long I may need to wait for the appointee appointment (approximately ).
Thank you.

Hi @aileen46,
I had a call fairly quickly after a suggestion by DWP that I apply, it was a visiting officer from a nearby Job centre, she was very nice and the appointment was brief, she gave me the go ahead immediately. I got the stamped approved paperwork later that week .
However it didn’t go onto all systems immediately, so I still had difficulties initially speaking on behalf of person I was appointee for.I made copies of the paperwork and sent copies to all the relevant offices with a covering letter. It took a while to filter through to be seen, and added, but all okay now.
I would chase up getting that visiting officer after Easter with PIP, as we have more bank holidays etc in May.

thank you so much for taking time to answer, I will definitely try to chase x
