Does anyone else find this community slightly hostile?

Ive tried to be a member of this community several times now, under several names. Each time Im slightly put off by the amount of hostile comments that people are allowed to make without any push back from the moderators.
I imagine Im not the only one to just leave because of this. Im on reddit so its not that I cant take abuse, its just that I feel this should be a safer place and it never feels like it.

I can't say I have noticed hostilities.
I find it a generally gentle and supportive forum in comparison to others.
That said, there do appear to be one or two posters who appear to be trolling with almost complete impunity. Posters who would be sliced and diced daily on any other forum.

Im not bothered as much about trolling, mentally ill people can appear to be doing that after all.
There does seem to be quite a few people who respond to comments by more or less telling you to shut up- and nothing is done about it by the moderators. Why are some members allowed to tell others that their input is not required.
Im not talking about the OPs of threads either- that is understandable… its generally just random member rocking up and telling people to basically shut up that they dont think their issue is an issue- I even had it happen on one of my own threads last time and Ive seen that happen to someone lately too- they get the thread shut down for "cooling off" and then its opened again and they can then just do it again and did- nothing happened to the poster of hostile comments.2 -
I think I know what you mean.
Maybe I'm reading different threads to the ones you read, or I'm less attuned to that behaviour/ the personalities involved but I haven't noticed it.
I realise that may come across as me saying there is no issue, but that's not my intent.
In all likelihood it's probably more about me not being able to read the room. đŸ˜³
I hope someone with more knowledge/experience of the site joins in soon to discuss this with you. x

I haven't noticed much hostility on this site but I don't post often so probably miss quite a lot of what is going on. I am sorry you have had a negative experience. Everybody should be able to express their opinion without resorting to being rude, We all have different lives, different experiences which are all valid and your voice and opinion is just as important as someone elses.

I'm so sorry to hear you've found the community hostile at times @Slonvinton we always want it to be a safe space for people. We will of course take your feedback and pass it on to the powers that be.

Slonvinton,"There does seem to be quite a few people who respond to comments by more or less telling you to shut up- and nothing is done about it by the moderators. Why are some members allowed to tell others that their input is not required."
Mods also rely on us to report (the flag icon below) unsavoury comments and rarely let something very rude or personal remain after checks.
Better to stay and discuss what you don't like about the forum and try to change how it operates or even try to change people's minds.

Yes I agree, same thing happened to me and I left for several months. As far as I know the abuser got off scott free. Can't say I was impressed with the way Scope handled matters.

part of it is the nature of social media. people will communicate directly. people will attack others due to misunderstandings. it's not necessarily malicious, and when you combine disability and mental illness into the mix, it's easy to fly off the handle.
at least this commuity has moderation. part of the reason so many people (especialyl young men) are being brainwashed into becoming neo-Nazis is because there are too many spaces online (including reddit) that arent moderated.

Yes I agree in a lot if cases there are some underlying issues but not in my particular case. Anyway I left for a few months and that poster now on ignore so all good. I guess it's a difficult one for Scope to sort out.

How do you "ignore" someone who has their profile set to private?

You can add people to your ignore list from your own profile @Slonvinton Just go into account and privacy settings, ignore list, then add the offending knaves.
