If this bill passes in its current form, it risks creating an atmosphere of anxiety, where individuals may hesitate before purchasing necessities or withdrawing cash, fearing their actions could be misinterpreted. Rather than fostering trust and support, such a system could shift towards surveillance and suspicion, ultimately undermining the dignity of those who rely on it most.
Welfare should not be about exerting control, it should help people stand on their own feet, ensuring they can access essential support without fear. No one should have to live under the constant weight of scrutiny, where basic survival feels like a risk and every welfare claimant is treated with suspicion rather than dignity.2
