Closure of UC claim due to personal injury compensation

Hi All
Can anyone help. My sons UC was closed in 2019 after receiving compo from Ireland after a birth related injury. I rang them to inform then of his receipt of compo and asked what I needed to do.i was only asked if the payment was over 16000 which it was.and was told by the DWP representative for UC that his claim would be closed as it was over 16000.My sons claim was reinstated back in June 2024 and was only made aware of the 52 week disregard then so literally few months back .I placed a complaint in my sons journal for him ,stating the error which was made by their representative back in 2019 ,he should of continued to receive his benefits for that time ,Their reply was that as the 2 year had passed they would not consider his claim ,yet he was only made aware of this error when his uc claim was reinstated .my son had paid his own rent as in private accommodation in that time and had paid his rent and all living expenses during this time ,can anything be done .I taught the 2 year timeframe only started from when he was made aware of the mistake they made .I would appreciate any advice in this matter thank you

I note that you have complained via Journal, but I would use the more formal complaint route and see if that gets you anywhere.

Local welfare rights might be worth contacting also
Personal Injury Compensation is disregarded for 52 weeks.
I don't know anything about a 2 year rule.
