I went to help my daughter yesterday to open her first bank account, she is on the autistic spectrum she lives at home with mum and dad, she has no bills no rent account no council tax bill, she doesn't drive or own a passport. She had a letter from pip her national insurance number letter her birth certificate. Both my husband and I are members of this bank. This is not enough proof for the bank she now has had to pay £33 for doctors letter to prove who she is and where she lives there has got to be a more easier dignified way for disabled adults to have basic everyday services. Has anybody else had this issue.

Hi @Bankaccountfor1 welcome to the community. That seems like a real faff - sorry your daughter's having to do this. I think the Bank has to follow some strict guidance when opening a new account however it would be better if there was an alternative way that doesn't cost money and potentially additional stress. Hopefully the GP can provide this information for you quickly.

    Best wishes,

The easiest way is for one of you parents to open a joint account with her. Which you will need anyway unless you have legal powers over her financial affairs.

She should not have a bank account in her own name unless she can run it herself - and it sounds as if she can't.

There are appointee bank accounts too but these do come with some catches.
