Can someone explain why Ed Millaband wants to spend £50 million on dimming the sun , when he wants to put solar panels everywhere, you need the sun for the panels to work properly. This Caborn capture more millions or billions. Yet with the sky interview he got figures wrong. He dosent know what he is doing. I'm all for saving the planet but we need gas , coal for the meantime until proper things are in place. This GB energy has one man who is paying thousands too, no other employees based in London ,not Scotland as its made out.

From what I've read, he's not talking about dimming the sun as such, it's more to do with reflecting rays back away from the earth in an attempt to slow down the global warming we're seeing right now. This would buy more time to decarbonise the planet.

The idea of reflecting sunlight away from Earth to slow global warming is pure madness for several reasons. It doesn’t solve the real issue, our rising greenhouse gas emissions. While it might temporarily reduce some of the warming, the underlying problem, the carbon we're still pumping into the atmosphere, will continue to build. Global warming will keep progressing underneath this artificial shield, and the damage will continue to mount.

It’s a dangerous gamble with unknown consequences. We’re messing with the planet’s climate without fully understanding the long-term effects. This could disrupt weather patterns, harm ecosystems, and even damage the ozone layer that protects us from harmful UV radiation. The risks are too high, and we’re playing with forces we don’t fully comprehend.

There’s also the terrifying potential for disaster if this method were started and stopped suddenly. Top scientists have warned that the rapid change could unleash extreme weather events, heatwaves, floods, and droughts, far worse than what we’re already experiencing. This could lead to widespread famine, crop failures, and water shortages, pushing the planet into even deeper chaos. In my own opinion, geoengineering is nothing but a dangerous distraction. The only way to truly address global warming is to tackle its root cause head-on.

Agreed @MW123 that's why I said it would buy us more time for decarbonisation. They've stated this isnt a solution, but ideas to help us slow things down whilst the root causes are tackled.
It's dangerous I totally agree, which is why they're only talking about tests, but I think a lot of the issues are the news outlets that are reporting on this, they're not exactly great for neutral, non clickbaity style articles. 😆

The damage extra sea salt seeded into clouds could do to crops doesn't bare thinking about though. Yikes!

Apparently I just it will be approved within weeks. Doesn't he realise that this will effect the whole world. Its insane

The project starting this year is the £21.7 billion carbon capture initiative not affecting the sun, which focuses on capturing CO2 pollution from factories before it enters the atmosphere. The CO2 is then stored safely underground or under the sea to reduce emissions.

Geoengineering, on the other hand, is still just being explored with £50 million allocated for research. This involves looking into ideas like reflecting sunlight to reduce global warming. However, there is no confirmed date or plan for this to happen anytime soon, just being investigated.

Because he really needs this money and he has already come up with a trick on how to get it.
