Question about getting married and living apart or together with benefits

Hi
Myself and my partner are looking to get married. We would like to find out if getting married and living apart would affect our benefits PIP and UC? And also weather living together with or without being married would affect our benefits to? Would anyone in Consensus know or give any advise on this or do you have any advise on this

Hi @Theresa18 firstly, congratulations on your marriage news. That sounds very exciting ☺️
I'm afraid the answer to both is potentially, yes. If your benefits are means-tested which UC is, there's a potential this could be impacted by getting married. The same can be said for living together as your benefits would need to be assessed together moving forward. Although with that being said, you may find your outgoings reduce if your sharing a home. I've added a link to the government website where you might find some additional detail - Universal Credit: further information for couples - GOV.UK. I'm sorry that's probably not the answer you'd hoped for.
