AWARENESS

Review of Universal Credit Services – Redcar
My experience with the Universal Credit team in Redcar has been deeply troubling and, at times, dehumanising. Over the past several months, I have endured financial instability due to a string of missing payments, thefts related to benefit payments, and what I believe to be unjustified sanctions. These issues have left me without essential support during a time of serious need.
For four months, I was subjected to sanctions that seemed disproportionate and poorly explained. Communication was often vague or contradictory, and attempts to resolve the matter through official channels were met with delays and a lack of empathy. On top of this, multiple payments—including a Cost of Living payment—failed to reach me, with little to no assistance from the Redcar Universal Credit team to trace or rectify the issue.
The psychological and emotional strain caused by these financial disruptions cannot be overstated. Universal Credit is supposed to be a safety net for people in crisis, yet my experience has felt more like an obstacle course, with no clear path to fairness or accountability.
To date, the lack of transparency and support has not only affected my ability to meet daily needs like food and bills but has also eroded my trust in a system designed to protect the vulnerable. I urge the Redcar office—and the DWP more broadly—to investigate these failings and take seriously the voices of claimants who are being left behind by systemic flaws and poor case handling.
No cost of living payment through sanctions … is that true?
i have complaints made? DWP and universal credit and my bank account seem to not have anything in common!! ….
Rating: 1/5 – Urgent need for reform and accountability.

Thank you for sharing your experience @jear7490 but really sorry to read about what you've been through, especially the inconsistent payments and the stress it's caused. Have you raised a complaint?
