Mandatory PIP Reconsideration

Hello,

I was recently awarded PIP at the standard rate. Yesterday, I called to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, but I’m concerned that I didn’t clearly explain why I believe I should have been awarded a higher number of points due to my long-term health condition.

I was very nervous on the phone and worry that I may not have expressed myself well. I’m now anxious that this could negatively affect my claim and possibly even reduce my current award.

Is it common for reconsiderations to result in a lower score? Thanks

    Hi,

Most awards stay the same after Mandatory Reconsideration.

As it was only yesterday when you asked for the MR, you could contact them again with more information.

Or just wait for the outcome of the MR. If it does stay the same (or worst case reduce) then you can go on to tribunal stage.

You're welcome. We do generally recommend that MR's are done in writing for this reason, though I appreciate it's too late for that in this case. I wouldn't recommend writing now as it might not arrive quickly enough compared to another phone call. It is entirely your decision though.

The majority of MR's remain the same. As said, it is better to write. If you have just been awarded PIP it would be tough luck to get a reduction. Stop worrying and call them back and say due to nerves to you omitted certain points and you would like to put your case forward again. You could also ask if you could put it in writing instead due to a nervous disposition.
