Hi, my son who has learning disabilities wants to learn how to drive an automatic car and learn off road, ie, private grounds or some venue. We live in Oxfordshire, so if anyone can point us in the right direction as to who could offer the above, please do let me know, many thanks, in advance. Cheers, M.

Hi Martino, a good starting point could be www.drivingmobility.org.uk

They have centres where specialised driving instructors and occupational therapists can carry out assessments

    and also,

    www.disabilitydrivinginstructors.com

You can do a search by area. I just took a quick look at this and there looks to be just one possibility in North Hinksey - Geo Soame.

I gave these website details to a parent of somebody I supported but they didn't pursue it so I'm afraid I don't have direct experience.

I went to Cardrome for myself some years ago but that was in Hornchurch (Essex) so probably too far c ? 100 miles from you. That was off road learning, I think ex- MOD land. I just used a driving instructor/their car, dual-controlled, as my husband at the time wouldn't teach me 🤣.

There's also Dunsfold Aerodrome for off-road learning but that's at Cranleigh Surrey so probably as far as Hornchurch.

I hope the above website information might be of help to you, and your son. All the very best to you both 🙏.

It's no trouble at all…Good Luck! I really hope they can help 😊 it's an exciting time for your son. Driving Mobility was connected in some way with the University of Chester where I did my nurse training, I think they were originally part of the Dept of Transport. Anyway, the very best of wishes to yous 👍.
