The government can withdraw a bill by moving to discharge the order for its next stage. If no MP objects, it’s quietly dropped without debate or division. But if even one MP objects, it must be debated and voted on.
In my view, ministers would only take this step if they’re seriously worried about the reasoned amendments being tabled, or fear a backbench rebellion that could derail the bill entirely.

I would say no chance, Labour don't do the visit from the 'men in grey suits', who hand you a revolver and a bottle of whisky, but these are strange times.
