Universal credit overpayment scared

You don't have to put anything in your journal if you haven't gone over 6k,you have been advised on this multiple times.

I'm sorry I've been just be overwhelmed with it all never had anything like this before so it was like what have I done wrong but I'm guessing everyone is having them now xx

As has been said, you don't need to declare it every month unless it is over £6000 total.

If you do want to declare it to UC on the 31st then it is very easy. Just go to 'make a change' and click on 'savings'. Then it will go through very simple pages asking you to put the date (31st) then the exact amount in your current account on that day, then the exact amount in your savings account on that day. UC will add them together for you. It really is that simple. 🙂

Hi I've just had my uncle here and he's looked at all my bank statements he said if they add all your money every month unspent and add it together each month since 2021nov to today I've got about 12k in unspent savings and unspent in total if this is how universal credit works there capital out which he took off my back pay for 1 years and all cost of living payments so this would mean over the last 3 years I now owe the 6k as the other 6k isnt counted I don't have this money at all only 3k in my savings but explained if I added unspent every month carried it forward to next month this is the total he's not an expert on how uc works but if this is correct I owe 6k 😭😭😭😭

He isn't correct, if between your accounts you never had more than £6k at any one time UC won't be interested.

What your uncle said simply makes no sense you don't have 12k you have 3k.

This Is what I explained to him he was reading the gov website like some months u would have 700 left in bank then month after I'd have 720 then I'd get a col payments and the nxt month it would be 600 left but when he's checked my bank statements that's what he's done he's just totalled the amount added it to nxt month the deduct the backpay and col it was so high so he's not done this correct then he's still here trying to do it like there saying he's good at maths but he's not getting it either xx

So we still dont understand any if this even my uncle tried to do all this from the gov website its baffled him too, all he was doing was if at the end of my assessment 31st i had 700 left that's unspent he would then look at the 31st of the month after and there was 700 again he would add them together and so on and so on, some months we're high due to col payments pip col and backpay money left in my bank is this not correct way of doing it my uncle is still here he's trying to help me x

If you have £700 left at the end of month one say and still have £700 at the end of month two it is still only £700. You do not add them together. If between all your accounts you have less than £6000 they are not interested. @sophie2002

So would i just go by my bank statements every month then like a new ap which show how much I have every month so 31jan my last ap 700 left in my bank say by the 31st feb there's still 700 in my bank 31st March there's 650 and 31st April there's 580 is this correct xx

Yes plus what is in your savings account. If it is under £6000 total every month you do not have to tell UC. @sophie2002

I didnt have a savings account when I first claimed universal credit I opened it 10 months later when I got some lwrca back pay so when I opened my savings account then every month u add what I have left in my unspent and add this to my savings is this what I do every month so let's say I have 3600 savings and 159 unspent I just add these together then the month after I have 3600 and 58 pound unspent just add them 2 together I know I've asked loads im just even more stressed my uncle tried to help but he wasn't doing it correctly I dont think he was anyway xx
