World Baking Day 2025

A photo of a homemade coffee and walnut cake with two layers topped with buttercream and a ring of walnuts around the edge

We're a day late, but a belated Happy World Baking Day to all the bakers on the community! And of course, all those who consume the bakes too 😉

In honor of this glorious day, I thought we could share some recipes and make each other very hungry. I'd love to hear about your favourite things to bake or eat.

My baking definitely skews sweet rather than savoury. I don't bake a lot now that I've got various dietary restrictions going on, but when I do I can guarantee it's a disgustingly large cake!

This recipe won me star baker at a charity cake sale recently and is all kinds of delicious. I made it gluten free and added some homemade apple jam to the middle and a bit of salted caramel to the top:

My other favourites are chocolate brownies. This one's my go-to recipe and it always goes down well:

And lastly, apple cake with streusel topping. I'm a bit of a pecan fan if you can't already tell. The crunchy topping with the soft fruity cake… Yum. 😁

So now I've shared a few of my (mostly pecan-laced) faves, what are your favourite bakes?

Or if you're not a baker, what are your favourite baked things to eat?

That's lovely @Amberpearl, the smell of fresh bread is one of the best smells in life. I bet it was wonderful smelling their creations!

Parkin is delicious. My mum often used to make that too. I haven't had a good one for a long time. Might be time for me to get the baking things out 😁

That looks lovely! I used to do a lot of baking but can't now. If I had to pick a favourite it could be coffee and walnut cake. Date and walnuts nice though. And shortbread still warm from the oven with a nice cup of tea.

My grandma was a fabulous baker - I very much miss her cakes. Really should try to do more baking myself as i always find it great fun. Thanks for sharing these recipes 😊
