Hi, my name is tillymint25! i currently live on my own with my children after divorcing my husband..

i currently live on my own with my children after divorcing my husband because I came out as gay. I have a girlfriend and we want to stay living separately as I have children and we don’t want to upheave their life anymore than has happened in the past few years. She proposed to me, and I’ve said yes, she’s my person, my question is if we marry but stay living seperately can I still claim my universal credit? Do I even need to tell them if nothing is changing. We are both completely financially independent, we have our own places, pay our own bills, buy our own stuff, thanks in advance x

Hi @tillymint25 and welcome to the community ☺️ From what I've seen from other situations, living separately shouldn't impact you. It becomes problematic when you live together.

thankyou for replying, we’ve actually bit the bullet and called uc to find out for sure. You’re right, if your circumstances don’t change, ie you live seperate, you don’t share finances, then u carry on claiming as an individual. No need to even tell them unless ur name changes then they said they update it as admin x
